If you could pick one moment that stands out to you as the best on your wedding day, what would it be? Our favorite moment was when Alli's father gave a speech at the wedding reception. Alli had asked her Dad if he wanted to say anything at the wedding a few weeks prior, and his response was "no way, I just want to attend and have a good time, no public speaking for me!". He surprised us both when he wanted to get up and talk in front of everyone. It was so special, because he got a chance to really welcome James into the family, now deeming James as one of his "treasures". It was such a special moment.

During your wedding planning, what was your vision for your wedding day? Our vision was really just a laid-back fun day. We had a very small (approximately 35 people) wedding, so we really just wanted to make sure everyone that came had a good time, and that the day was truly about our love for one another and for our friends/family. We definitely accomplished that- it was better then we could have even imagined!

Describe any special traditions, personal mementos, or helpful friends/family members who played a sentimental role in your wedding planning or wedding day. Alli's mother passed away when she was 4 years old. Before her passing, her mother went to a jewelry store and bought Alli a locket that her Dad would give to her on her wedding day. When Alli's Dad gave her the locket on the day of the wedding, it was truly a very special (and emotional) moment for everyone. It made it feel like her Mom was actually there. We also had a remembrance table for all of the special family members that could not physically be at the wedding, which was really important to us both.

What made you choose your venue(s) for your wedding day? We really wanted to have a small and intimate wedding day. We both are really drawn to the water, so it made perfect sense to have the wedding near the water. We got married at the lighthouse because lighthouses have been a big part of Alli's life since she was a little girl. Her grandmother actually collects lighthouse figurines and other lighthouse memorabilia, and gave Alli all of her lighthouses when she moved out of her home. The whole venue really embodied two very important things to both of us.

What was your First Dance song? Is there a special story behind it? Our first dance was "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. James loves to sing- in the car, in the shower, anywhere! This was one of the first love songs that he sang in the car to Alli.

What was one wedding planning decision that proved invaluable? Our caterer- High Cotton BBQ- was invaluable to our wedding planning. We actually decided on using them when we first went down to Corolla to check out the lighthouse. We were not looking to find a caterer that day, we just stopped in for lunch, and loved their food! It was destiny! Not only did they provide amazing food for our reception, they also helped us pinpoint many of our other vendors for the day. It is hard planning a wedding from afar, and with their guidance, we were able to find other AMAZING OBX wedding vendors!! We could not have done it without their help!
